Program for Environmental Awareness in Schools: On the 3rd September, 2005 Vidya Valley hosted the festival in our lush, green campus in the Sus village on the outskirts of Pune. The pristine surroundings sent a silent message (to save the planet) which was more eloquent than any talk could have been.
Over 150 children from 10 schools gathered at Vidya Valley to renew their pledge to save the environment. This was the fourth consecutive year of the PEAS festival.
Children expressed their solidarity and commitment through paintings, collages debates and games. The poems they wrote (on the spot) on environment issues are a testimony to the depth of their feelings and awareness. The highlight of the day was the quiz on the environment, with extremely vocal participation by the audience.
Teachers too were enthusiastic participants in the Enviro Dumb Charades. A warm thank you to the various people who gave their time to this important ideal of raising awareness and concern for the environment amongst children. Deepak Dalal, Padma Murthy, Bharati Kanbargi and Vrushali Kulkarni had a tough time judging the children's performance.
The students went back with tokens of appreciation. On everyone's mind was one thought – "Don't kill the world – our world". Most importantly, children went back with the knowledge that they can make a difference to save our planet.
